Dr. Mohamed Shabana, a dedicated and passionate neurologist, has chosen Plano, Texas, as the location for his clinic, where he serves patients not only at his practice but also at three well-known hospitals in the area.

Driven by patient advocacy, he takes pride in pioneering new implementations in neurological care to provide the best possible outcomes for his patients. Partnering with the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas, located in our Dallas Office, Dr. Shabana encourages patient education and community involvement.

As part of a dynamic team of Epilepsy Specialists, Dr. Shabana works collaboratively to offer comprehensive care to individuals facing epilepsy and seizure-related conditions. He plays a vital role in overseeing the Neuro Testing Center, which provides both long-term and short-term EEG testing, allowing for accurate and thorough diagnosis and treatment planning.

Dr. Shabana’s journey in neurology began when he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a physician. During medical school, he witnessed a patient having a seizure, sparking a deep fascination with the disease and the intricate nature of the physical exam. He firmly believes in understanding the person first before diagnosing the disease, spending detailed time with each patient to ensure comprehensive and personalized care.

With a life goal of establishing a comprehensive epilepsy program and clinic for patients with refractory epilepsy, Dr. Shabana is dedicated to advancing the field and improving the lives of those affected by the condition. His passion and commitment to neurology were further recognized during medical school when he received the Resident Teacher Award. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his practice, having completed dual fellowship-training in Epilepsy and Neurophysiology from UTSW.

Dr. Shabana provides care to individuals with:

  • First time seizure or seizure-like activity
  • Established epilepsy or seizure disorder in need of routine care
  • An interest in obtaining a second opinion
  • A need to transition from a pediatric to an adult epileptologist
  • Catamenial epilepsy or pregnancy-related concerns
  • Intolerable side effects from seizure medications
  • Uncontrolled seizures despite being on seizure medications
  • An interest in learning more about treatment options outside of medication

Affiliated with a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, Dr. Shabana has the expertise to offer elective admissions to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), where intensive neurodiagnostic monitoring can be performed. He also provides consultations for patients requiring epilepsy surgery, ensuring comprehensive and specialized care for every individual he treats.

Outside of his medical pursuits, Dr. Shabana finds solace in spending quality time with his wife, children, and extended family members.
